Bear Safety for Hunters - How to avoid encounters when hunting, foraging and walking in bear country.

The course presented eight lessons, totalling 164 minutes of learning content.

In this course, we'll discuss bear safety and safe practices for individuals spending time in the woods, whether you're hunting, foraging, or working in the area. We aim to share best practices for avoiding bear encounters, how to react in the event of a bear encounter, and the worst-case scenario. If you find yourself in a situation where a bear is charging or attacking you, we will try to give you some options to mitigate that situation and have the best possible outcome.

I have joined Rob Wilson, an EarWild mentor and fellow Park Ranger.
As a Park Ranger, one of your key roles is to be a park officer or ranger responsible for maintaining the safety of park visitors. The position requires you to manage problem bearers and bear encounters, investigate bear encounters, and manage challenging bears in campgrounds. Over the years, both Rob and I have gained significant experience assessing bear behaviour. Rob and I have a combined 50 years of professional expertise in keeping people safe in bear country, and we strive to educate others about bear safety and how to respond to bears in the field.

Lastly, we have spent a great deal of time in the woods working, hunting, and foraging in bear country. And we have the bear stories to prove it!

This course will help you build the knowledge and confidence to avoid bear encounters, making you feel safer in bear country.
